29 Dec 2008
China

come together

Today I’ve been working on making the appearance of my website in Firefox the same as it is in IE. Believe it or not, it’s not easy to do. Webpages often appear differently in different browsers. I have 3 browsers I use and test with.
After many hours, success! CSS are great, but without the pfousion of Internet resources I’d be lost. I’ve built this website myself, page by page. I’ve been slowly making the code more elegant, over time. I use Dreamweaver and notepad most often, with the usual MS apps to spell check and write small databases for the surveys. Macromedia products really do it for me.
Next for my site maybe I’ll link friends’ blogs and YouTube pages, as well as my YouTube videos (only have 1 right now). Maintaining my website keeps me programming and I like programming as a hobby.

win in love, lose in war

OK I’ve lost a bet and now must make an online confession that someone thinks is pretty damn funny:
When I go to Starbucks I sometimes pick up some extra napkins and forget to return them. Well, actually I don’t return them on purpose. Actualy I go to Starbucks whenever I’m low on napkins. I go there and order the cheapest coffee and when I’m adding milk at that little milk stand area they have, I pick up a small handful of napkins. Then I drink my over priced coffee like everyone else. I look cool like everyone else. Then I go home with the napkins.
And sugar. I get my sugar that way too.

morning light

24 Dec 2008
China

you know i drool
you’ll love me anyway
my breath smells older
than me
it’s twilight
next to
my morning light
my you

is it the stuff in my eyes
or my dirty hair
i haven’t showered yet
and i smell like you
but my first sight
is the morning light
my morning life
in you

I wake as you watch
this kinda man
who looks this bad
who tastes this bad
but your first sight
is what we are
together
and i see it too

i can see it in your eyes
i can see the reason there
i can see some need, some rhyme,
and life
i see my morning light
my you

you know it’s dark
it’s lonely there
here, in my heart
but your hair’s dirty too
and my first kiss
is your morning kiss
this morning light
is you

i can see it in your eyes
i can see my smile there
i can see some purpose, this moment’s
peace
i see my morning light
in you

what of my devoted darkness
what of my treasured broken heart
why do you take this desperate man
why do you crack this empty shell
why do you see me

you know me now
you’ll love me anyway
you know the night
is nearer to me
but my first sight
is the morning light
the morning light
of you

i can see it in your eyes
i can see this song there
i can see another day here,
with you
my morning light
my you

winter wonderland

22 Dec 2008
China

”

Winds will howl, aren’t you listening,
Nothing moves, nothing glistening
A typical sight,
It’s freezing tonight.
Living in a winter wonderland.
Gone away is the bluebird,
living things have been deferred
I sing you this song,
Because it is wrong,
To live in a winter wonderland
**
Playing in the meadow is a conflict,
‘Cause I’m not a big fan of frostbite
Instead I’m trapped indoors like a convict,
To enjoy the day’s 3 hour’s light
**
Later on, I’ll still be here
On my bum, drinking more beer
Because it is true,
There’s nothing to do,
Living in a winter wonderland
**
I have friends who tell me winter’s easy,
It’s the better season to have fun
“You can always wear more clothes,” they tell me,
Would someone please go get my loaded gun.
**
Acid snow is a fallin’
as my desperation’s callin’
It’s true what I’ve said,
I’d rather be dead,
Than live in a winter wonderland.
I’m so f—— done,
Of life without sun,
Living in a winter wonderland.

this cold dark axis
this day with little sunlight
this cosmic pivot

my southern neighbor
will now see us use the sun

yesterday was bad
today is winter solstice
tomorrow is good

universal truth
the seasonal rotation
I will die someday

perfect day

It’s official!
After years of dedicated effort, my brother’s wife has just become an American citizen.

For this occasion, I’ve decided to embed a music video, and I felt the artistic creation of someone else was the perfect way to express my personal sentiment.
I fell in love for the first time in my life listening to Lou Reed’s Street Hassle.
As a young American in Detroit, Reed’s music gave me hope for a better future.
Here’s one of his more recent singles, performed with everybody-loves-Pavarotti.
I chose this strange duet because it resonates the many oddities that make up American evenness. It’s a tempting perversion of music, lyrics, talent, and ability. It’s beautiful, yet off-key and unusual, deserving both praise and criticism. I think it’s American, and perfectly fitting for this occasion.

Congratulations to Tom and his new American wife Marites.
In the freak show that is the USA, you are most welcome!

Seriously, there’s something extraordinary about someone working so hard for American citizenship. People all over the world still want to go to America and every day a few risk their lives trying. Some, like Marites, are successful and become Philippine-Americans, Korean-Americans, Chinese-Americans, Japanese-Americans, etc. Immigrants transforming into legal members of the world’s most successful democracy to date, and being awarded the freedom of speech and movement that all Americans enjoy by law. These new citizens can become lazy, ignorant pigs and ignore the world, like so many of their fellow Americans, or they can watch the police protect them as they protest the government. These new citizens can indulge in the world’s greatest frivolities and enjoy the world’s greatest achievements, all in that kaleidoscope I too call home.
Congratulations Marites. Now your taxes can support the George W. Bush administration.
