  • Catrgory: Liner Notes

I practiced my keyboard for this, and took some online lessons. It was fun to do the chorus/interlude because I got to use the keyboard for rhythm. Again, dozens of copies were made and tweaked and tweaked and tweaked and re-recorded and re-edited.

This is my tribute to the Neil Young music I grew up with. I can’t even begin to quantify how much time I spent completely oblivious to my surroundings because I was so heavily intoxicated or under the influence of something, while listening to Neil Young. In this song I wanted to include as much of Neil Young’s sound as I understood it: a clumsy, home-grown sound that included backyard harmony and piano with lots of “ooh’s” swooning over it. The electric guitar at the end was also a must for this reason.

Neil Young was a big influence in my young life, and that drum you here in this song is definitely from him. I wanted to take the emotion I gathered from his music and use that as a background for some serious lyrics about a topic of global concern.

As usual, I worked my arse off trying to get that piano and “ooh” balance just right, harmony rough yet ready, and drums not to strong but strong enough.

I love this song because it not only expresses my discontent with humanity’s harmful, hurtful inability to keep it in their pants, but also because it talks about a campaign near and dear to my heart: child abuse.

We breed like genuinely mindless animals, and with the product of that breeding, we abuse and exploit. I can say little more here because human history speaks for itself.
