The news is wonderful. Physicists, computer programmers and technicians, and various other science-minded individuals clapped, hollered, and gave each other high-fives where the atmosphere at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory was like “the locker-room celebration of Super Bowl winner combined with speeches at the Academy Awards.” (Ken Chang, NYTimes online, 26Jan2004)
As I sit inside the house today, trapped in the deceit of an ice storm that has me convinced that the powdered sugar-frosted trees do not pose any genuine hazard, I read about the Mars landing. You’ve got to check out the NASA site. That site has colored pictures, video, computer-generated video, and much more to amuse, teach, and fascinate.
It’s all so very exciting and hopeful; Humanity as a fantastic voyage. Add to our place in history: witnesses to the dawn of the colonization of Mars.
