I hope the oil comes ashore because it will bring the sights and smells of the dirty truth about fossil fuel and the US dependence on oil to the deaf, dumb and blind Americans.Out of sight, out of the American mind.
The current US economy can’t exist without oil, but the costs of this dependence is kept far away from the consumer. Glossy images produced by BP and others show how environmentally friendly and concerned these companies and industries are.So what.
As long as Americans can watch American Idol and get their meat eaters pizza delivered in less than 30 minutes, the rest of the world can go to hell.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Of course, the government is a tool of companies like BP and oil industries. How can it not be? The US economy and its ignorant masses of consumers unknowingly consume oil with gluttonous demand. The US Government and BP will sell and pitch all sorts of propaganda that minimizes the scope and effects of the spill. News of scary events might coincidentally appear in the centralized US media to distract the public.
